Hal, my handsome husband, has quite the handsome colon. Who knew??? I got to see the whole thing. Now we are really really married. It is perfect: pink, healthy, just a smashing colon.

I could go on and on about the health care you get here in Costa Rica.  It is everything you could ask for, and more.

We arrived a few minutes late – rush hour traffic in San Jose is intense. The minute we arrived, they whisked Hal in, put him to sleep, then came and got me! I stood right beside the doctor, he has the "scope" thingie in one gloved hand and shakes my hand with the other. Hal’s colon is big as life on the TV screen in front of us and Dr. Perez describes everything we are seeing, I ask questions…

[NOTE: This is like a dream come true for me. I LOVE this kind of thing. When I have my colonoscopy, Hal will not want to watch or even think about what is going on… He will pretend I am having a haircut. Not me – I LOVE the medical channel, C.S.I., bring it on. I’m funny that way.]

Afterwards, Hal spends 15 minutes waking up while I read the FSBO magazine in the waiting room. He comes out, a bit groggy, a little cramping, but doesn’t remember any of it. Dr. Perez walks out with him, chats with us for a few minutes, and gives us the report complete with pictures. Yes, pictures! Don’t worry, I’m not going to post them. Hal wouldn’t allow it for one thing. Besides, you’ve seen one healthy colon, you’ve seen them all.

We go to a soda (like a Costa Rican diner) for a little breakfast. The only thing Hal can’t eat is dairy and beans today. So he has apple pie. Now we are home, he’s having a nap and I’m breathing a big sigh of relief.

It’s another great day in Paradise. Thanks for visualizing. See? It works!!!

xoxo Saratica
