That’s just about all that is happening. Wait. Lemme think… anything else? Nope. Sweating. That covers it.
If you are breathing in Puerto Viejo – or PV as the locals refer to it – you are sweating. Dripping from 7am till right about now: 6pm or so, after the sun has been over the yardarm for an hour. During the day, it’s too hot to do anything but sit as still as possible and sweat.
Or surf. As you can imagine, I’m big on surfing. Bikinis and all that…
But this is Day Six of Camp Jungle 2 Jersey. Let’s start at Day One. Shall we?
Is that where you’re staying? Is the chicken part of the deal?
Ha ha, I used to feel like a hen sweltering in a roasting pot most of the time in Jaco but believe it or NOT, you adjust to it. In the REAL hot months, you do sweat just standing still. You have to dress for it. That’s why everyone here runs around practically naked and takes cold showers often (or goes to the beach).
arp – NO! I stayed across the street… but this place is pretty picturesque, no?
Yah – muy pictaresque. It sounds really, really hot there. Kinda makes me rethink living right on the coast. I’d still love to have a little swimming hole tho.
I have this dream of having a little place on the coast, where I can see the ocean, walk along the beach… very romantic. I could live in this heat part of the year as long as I had some relief – just a hammock and a fan would do it. But leave the fan and I am sweating the rest of the time. Once you get acclimated (we lived in Key west 30 years… subtropical and damned hot there, too), it’s better… but I never stopped sweating in the summer heat in Key West. Which made me REALLY attractive showing property in August…
I just spent the last 10 days in PV, and yeah it was hot as hell but I’ve lived in FL my entire life of 26 years and I would have to say that the humidity in FL kills you. As long as you try to stay in the shade during the day and not run a triathalon in PV you should be OK.
No triathalons for this gringa vieja! When I was in the shade, I loved PV. What a great funky town.
