What a cute picture. I remember every morning wondering why I brought an alarm clock to wake me. Nature provided that service for me.
I am not sure about blog etiquette, but I am jumping ahead and asking a question. I am conducting a service learning project with my 8th graders and we are raising money for supplies for a couple of schools in the Guanacaste region. I was there in April and tried to buy white boards locally and was told I would have to go to the Bank of Costa Rica either in Flamingo or Liberia and pay for the items. Now I am trying to purchase a copier from Ricoh for one of the schools and am told to do the same thing, either an electronic transfer straight to the bank, or go to the bank and deposit the money.
Is that how business is done there? Do you not pay the companies direct? It really makes it hard to do business there, especially long distance business.
Thanks for any insight you might have, and sorry if I am just making annoying noise like the howler.
DUDE – thanks for the plug! I was wondering why my stats were so high this morning. Still have to ask the hubs about that subscribe button thing. I’ve been working on my jewelry business site and have gotten sidetracked.
Carlita, no problem! Please ask any questions you want. I know it might be hard – I think you emailed me before your trip but I never responded. My mom was having trouble, we were all sick – I was overwhelmed with life and never wrote you back. I know that email is somewhere… sorry about that!!! But YES, this is how you do business here. No one writes checks to a business: it’s a cash country. I’m going to a conference this fall in Manuel Antonio and I need to go to their bank and deposit my hotel/conference fee in their account. I keep the receipt and show that to them when I get there! It was very strange to me too at first, but that’s how it’s done. Cash or direct deposit into their account. Thanks for being a generous soul. The schools sure do need it here!!! Pura vida.
You’re welcome, Island chica! Loved that howler face.
I LOVE that face! The howlers were the best – they’re such beautiful creatures. I need to live someplace that has monkeys. I can’t imagine anything that brings me closer to nature than seeing them.
