This from A.M. Costa Rica this morning:
"The tunnel under Avenida 1 at Parque España is getting a mosaic called ‘Billy’ in honor of artist Carlos Tapia’s late cat. Henry Esquivel and an assistant are at work in the photo. Both sides of the tunnel will be tiled as part of a municipal program."
I will go by there today and see it – I love this kinda stuff!
Sally, When you go be sure to visit the adjacent Parque España, just north of the overpass. It’s one of my favorite parks in San José. Don’t overlook the interesting tiled obelisk at the NE corner of the park. The park, filled with atractive tropical foliage and restful curving benches contoured amongst the landscaping, has always for me been a tranquil oäsis in a bustling city. Also next to and just east of Parque España is the Culture Center, which itself makes for an interesting visit. (It’s the place that was, for a time recently, being considered to make over into a new Casa Presidencial.) And on the west side of the park is the unusual Escuela Metalica. Wow, your visit to see the tile makeover of that underpass could turn into an all-day cultural event. Maybe we’ll eventually see those impressions here on your blog. Cheers! Paul / Tampa, FL ==
