Do you know that she wrote a cookbook about fruitcake? It may still be available or as remaindered.
It has many interesting and historic fruitcake recipes in it along with her recollections of making them to give for the holidays decades ago.

One of my earliest Christmas memories is of our local fruitcake lady in my hometown in KY bringing her annual fruitcake to our house. We were very good actors and said things like “Oh, wow. great. thanks! merry christmas to you, too.” Then we’d throw it away… I’ve never had good fruitcake. Perhaps I need a good recipe…
